The Performance and Emission Characteristics Assessment of Hybrid Biodiesel/Ethanol Blends in a Diesel Engine

Abstract In this study, a biodiesel blend was developed from the waste cooking oil methyl ester (WCOME) and soya bean (SBME), namely, optimum of WCOME-SBME (BM100) biodiesel. This biodiesel-biodiesel mixture (hybrid biodiesel) in turn blended with 15 % ethanol to give mixture-ethanol (BME15). The has better density than individual biodiesels, SBME had lower viscosity compared BM100 WCOME. presence hybrid reduced both kinematic high blend. also exhibited heating value biodiesels. Engine performance emissions were tested using diesel (D100), WCOME, SBME, BM100, BME15, experimental results obtained predicted Diesel-RK software. indicated that at maximum speed 2500 rpm, performed terms brake power (BP), thermal efficiency (BTE), specific fuel consumption (BSFC), mean effective pressure biodiesels (WCOME SBME) but marginally poorer D100. BTE BME15 is comparable BM100. On other hand, emission characteristics having lowest NO, particulate matter (PM), hydrocarbon (HC) D100, Overall, when engine are considered increased WCOME while more decreasing PM, HC emissions.
